Our teachers are extraordinarily gifted, enthusiastic, and committed. They share a love for their subject areas. More importantly, they share a commitment to helping each student develop as a learner and an individual.

Katherine Keith, our Director, earned her M. Ed. in School Counseling from The George Washington University. She is the parent of two college students--one of whom graduated from The Howard Gardner School.

Emily Pavot, our learning specialist and mentor teacher, earned her M. Ed. from George Mason University, and is a certified LD/English teacher (PK-12).

Alex Castle, our History teacher, also has extensive experience in zoology. He earned his BA in History at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Winslow is our English teacher. Michael graduated from Hampshire College with a BA with a focus on literature and social justice.

Shelly Witiak, a founding teacher, is our math and art teacher. She earned her BA in Education at Juniata College. Shelly has a unique ability to help students visualize math and art.

Chad Thomas teaches Physics, advanced math and Improv. Chad has a Masters in Educational Psychology and worked as a researcher for many years.

Addie Helmke, our environmental science teacher, is also a founding teacher. She earned her BA in Environmental Studies with an emphasis on Education at Dickinson College. Addie has extensive experience in outdoor education, and an inspiring commitment to the environment.
