The Washington DC area is a wonderful learning laboratory.

Resources...

We live in one of the most historically, culturally, and environmentally rich areas in the world—and we take advantage of what the area has to offer.

Field Studies

Tuesdays are for field studies related to what the students are studying. Field studies have included Capital Area Foodbank, senate offices, stream monitoring,
New York City, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, The Baltimore Aquarium, The American History Museum, and Presidential Election exit polling. These off-campus experiences reinforce learning by making it tangible and memorable, and encourage a lifetime of exploration.

Internships

Fridays are devoted to students’ internships. An internship may be paid or unpaid, but it must be related to a student’s interests, and must be approved by the school. The school will help students arrange appropriate placements. Students will receive one high school credit for their internship experience when they complete their log and other requirements.

Internships have included The National Zoo, The Smithsonian Entimology Department, Winkler Nature Preserve, the American Horticulture Society, Head Start, animal hospitals, elementary schools, a golf course, an art gallery, among others.

The Chesapeake Bay is an endless source of inspiration.

We are outside every chance we get.
